Porcelain, underglaze cobalt blue decoration
A slender Chinese blue and white porcelain bud vase of baluster form, finely painted with a flowering peony spray issuing from leafy stems. The decoration is executed in varying tones of cobalt blue, with confident brushwork typical of late Qing revival wares.
The shoulder is encircled by a key-fret border beneath a band of stylised hanging leaves, while the base is finished with a geometric lappet border. The short waisted neck terminates in a lightly everted rim. The porcelain body has a soft, milky glaze with a subtle translucency when held to the light.
Unmarked to the base, as is common for decorative export and domestic wares of this period.
