A charming clear crystal glass paperweight modelled as a curled hedgehog, designed and produced by the Swedish glassmaker Mats Jonasson.
The hedgehog is naturalistically rendered with finely textured spines contrasting against the smooth, softly frosted head and face. The sculptural form captures the animal in a resting pose, its body curled protectively inward. The interplay between polished and satin finishes enhances depth and light refraction within the solid crystal.
Jonasson’s work, produced in Maleras, Sweden, is well known for its crisp moulded detail and high optical clarity, qualities clearly evident in this example.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or clouding.
Marks: Typically engraved or acid-marked to the base “Mats Jonasson” and “Sweden” (base not illustrated).
