Date: Late 20th century (c. 1970s–1980s)
Materials: Copper with engraved and brass-inlaid decoration
Maker: Erzincanlılar (labelled)
A finely made Turkish copper lidded casket, richly decorated with traditional engraved foliate and geometric motifs, heightened with brass inlay against a blackened ground. The domed lid is fitted with a central knop, opening to a gilt-washed copper interior.
The body rests on three small bun feet and retains its original Erzincanlılar – Kupfer Hand Arbeit / Copper Hand Made – Istanbul, Turkey paper label to the underside, confirming hand craftsmanship. Handwritten inscriptions around the base reference Istanbul and Bosphorus scenes, typical of decorative wares produced for the export and tourist market in the later 20th century.
Pieces from Erzincanlılar are well regarded for their quality of engraving and faithful continuation of Ottoman decorative traditions.
